No account, no cheque to clear, Gurgaon bank threatened to be bombed!

In an incident that could be a prank or the work of someone insane, the branch of a PSU bank in Palam Vihar, Gurgaon, had its security thrown into a tizzy. The cause was a letter sent by an unidentified person, who had cropped up with a demand, that, too, strange and out of the world.

On March 9, the manager of State Bank of India, Palam Vihar, Gurgaon, received a letter, demanding that Rs 8.55 lakh be transferred to a particular company account. The manager could not meet the demand, as the bank was not in receipt of any negotiable instrument (cheque, draft or pay order) through any company or firm that had authorised remittance of such a payment.

Subsequently, the manager, who is a lady, got frantic phone calls, by the same unidentified person, threatening her of dire consequences, which could amount to her abduction or else blowing up of the bank branch with a bomb, if his demands were not met.

A complaint in this regard was lodged by the branch manager on Friday at Palam Vihar police station. The police was told that a person had written a letter demanding that money be transferred to a particular account, barring which the branch would be blown up.

An FIR has been registered and the local police are probing the matter.
