Come April 1 and banquet hall owners who fail to clear their property taxes by March 31st could face sealing of their premises. To that effect, MCG has sent notices to 76 owners, who cumulatively owe more than Rs 9.27 crore as property tax.

The halls thus sealed would be and subsequently auctioned off, warn MCG officials.

A similar notice was issued to banquet hall owners last month, mentioning March 8 as the deadline for clearing the tax dues. The deadline was, however, extended as hall owners asked for more time.

“March 31 is the last chance for banquet hall owners to redeem themselves. If they fail to meet this deadline yet again, we seal their property the next day,” confirmed MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav.

In a parallel step, the MCG is also reintroducing a policy to help banquet hall owners regularise their properties in the next three months. They were given a similar opportunity earlier too, but only one banquet hall owner came forward.

However, according to MCG officials, if owners fail to regularise their properties this time, the buildings will be razed.

Of the 76 banquet halls under radar, 45 are located on the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road in Zone II area. They owe 91 per cent (Rs 8.4 crore) of the total dues.

Five banquet hall owners in Zone IV owe Rs 66 lakh; 21 banquet hall owners in Zone I owe Rs 36 lakh and five owners in Zone III are to pay Rs 13 lakh to the MCG.

The MCG has also sent notices to 62 banquet hall owners for not obtaining a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department.
