MCG budget for 2018-19 poised for a mega jump

To accommodate extra expenditure on better civic amenities and infrastructure, MCG fiscal budget for 2018-19 will be way higher than what it was in the previous years. The tentative allocation of funds for 2018-19, as per MCG officials, is expected to be Rs 1,900 crore, with an anticipated return of approximately Rs 2,300 crore.

For 2017-18, the MCG had anticipated a return of Rs 2,025 crore against its budget of Rs 1,425 crore.

This time, the budget will accommodate expenses related to the transfer of HUDA sectors to the MCG, maintenance of nine private colonies, LED streetlights projects, rejuvenation of natural ponds, waste related projects, and upgrading roads.

However, there are other reasons for the higher budget. MCG needs to compensate for the Rs 140 crore given to NHAI for the construction of three underpasses at the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and Rs 500 crore given to propel the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

According to official sources, funds allocation for sanitation department is set for a boost, owing to the transfer of HUDA sectors and proposed maintenance transfer of nine private colonies. Last year, Rs 45 crore had been allocated to the department.

The engineering, sewage and horticulture department are also set for an increase for construction of arterial roads, cleaning of drains, rejuvenating natural ponds and rainwater harvesting pits, and increasing green areas.
