Noida school bus rams into pillar at underpass; 16 children, driver injured

At least 16 students of Apeejay School, Noida, and the driver were injured when their school bus (UP 16 ET 3431) hit a pillar near Rajnigandha Chowk underpass in Noida around 8 am on Saturday.

The students were immediately taken to the nearby Kailash Hospital.

According to a doctor in the emergency department at the hospital, four to five students were badly injured and received shoulder injuries. Others were given first-aid and discharged.

The police said that the driver, who was identified as Ganga Sagar Upadhya (57), is in a critical condition and admitted in ICU. A class XI student, identified as Roshni (16), was also seriously injured in the accident.

The management of Apeejay School blamed the Noida Authority for the accident. “The incident happened because of the callousness of Noida Authority. Construction work has been going on in the area and the materials are scattered everywhere. As a result, the bus skidded off and hit the underpass pillar,” AK Sharma, Principal of Apeejay School said.

Police said that they have not received any complaint so far from anyone. “The reason behind the incident will be clear once we speak to the driver,” said a police official.
