No sense of security here! A view of one of the unmanned gates in the sector.

Security is among the top amenities in any residential society. And when it fall short of its mark, the price can be very high. No wonder residents of Sector 19 in Noida are a worried lot. Lax security arrangements have caused them to even park their two-wheelers inside their houses.

There are 16 gates in the sector. Residents complain that the security guards do not maintain a log of the visitors where they can take down the names of the visitors, their contact numbers and registration number of their vehicles. The say that security is lax despite the presence of the magistrate’s office in the sector.

They also say that there are four gates with no guards and visitors enter through these gates uninhibited. They want two security guards deployed round the clock at each gate. According to residents, they have brought up the issue with the RWA a number of times, but the RWA cited a paucity of funds.

RP Chauhan, a resident, told City Spidey, “Every household pays a maintenance charge Rs 1,000 per year and there are around 3,000 houses in the sector. The RWA should explain how it is spending the money and what the actual expenditure on security in the sector is.”

When City Spidey took up the issue with RC Gupta, general secretary of the RWA, he said, “We spend Rs 2 lakh per month on the security of the sector. We have hired 24 security guards and two supervisors for the sector. The monthly salary of one guard is Rs 7,000 and that of the supervisor is Rs 10,000.”

He added, “From 11 pm to 5 am, only three gates are open and one security guard is on duty at each gate. A fourth security guard patrols the sector on a motorcycle. In addition to this, there are six CCTV cameras installed on the three gates that are open at night.”

But, it seems somehow that is not enough. Subhash Chandra Mishra, another resident, said, “Last Saturday night, my son's motorcycle was stolen from outside my house. Now residents are so wary of the security in the sector that many have started parking their two-wheelers inside their houses.”
