The public health department of Noida Authority has directed the city magistrate to initiate punitive action against plastic manufacturing units and sellers.

The department has written a letter, mentioning that during a recent inspection it was found that plastic bags and other materials are being made and sold illegally in the city.

“It is to inform all of you that Noida Authority’s public health department along with the local police have been accessing various areas of the state to abolish the usage of plastic,” letter read.

It further mentioned that the health department of Noida Authority had conducted several surprise checks at various places. During such drives, the inspection team had collected a fine amounting to Rs 3 to Rs 4 lakh and accumulated 2-3 quintal of plastic.

“Despite all these, the usage of plastic has yet not completely stopped. We feel that now we should take strict action against factories making plastics,” Authority's letter to city magistrate read.

The authority has also requested other departments to initiate collective efforts to achieve the ideal label of being called a plastic-free city.
