It was an eventful day for the residents of Shipra Sun City on Saturday. WhatsApp groups and gossip circles were abuzz with the event the entire day. After a gap of three years, Shipra Sun City phase I held its AOA election and elected ten new faces.
45-year-old lady, Swati Chauhan, topped the list bagging over 512.96 votes. Out of 1800 voters in the society, 670 people turned out to vote in the election. Keeping in view the trend of RWAs elections this year, which are mostly happening unopposed and uncontested, the competition here was tough as 25 contenders tried their luck this time.
An ex-journalist, Swati aims to digitise and bring accountability in society. "With the help of technology, I would try my best to ease out the hectic life of the residents," she said.
Swati also spoke upon the agenda of the elected team. "Our vision is to resolve contentious matters of society first. The matters of dog and monkey bites, conservation of water, introducing ways to utilise water in a smart way and renovation of the infrastructure are on our priority list," she said.
The last election had occurred in July 2015 for the posts of AOA office bearers. The board remained as it is for over three years. However, this year, the election was fought on all ten posts of the AOA.
The election was announced early this month after the deed of the declaration was submitted by Shipra Estate Limited in Ghaziabad Development Authority.
