One of the delegates demanded a gap between the payment due date and the date for disconnection of the electricity connection.
A delegation of the office-bearers of the District Development Resident Welfare Association on Thursday met V N Singh, chief zonal engineer of Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), to register their protest against hike in power tariff and security deposit.
Sushil Agarwal, one of the delegates, said it was not fair to collect surcharge from the residents of Noida as they have been paying the bills on time. As for the security deposit, he contended that collecting it from the consumers itself is unjustified.
N P Singh, another office-bearer and former president of Federation of Noida Resident Welfare Association, said that the department should take steps to bring down the electricity bills. He further demanded a gap between the due date for payment of the bill and the date for disconnection of the electricity connection. Currently, the date for payment of dues and disconnection of electricity is the same.
The delegates said that the residents complained that the staff at the revenue collection counter of the department were accepting only cash at the counter in Sector 19 and not entertaining cheques. This, they said was causing enormous inconvenience to many. Singh assured the office-bearers that the staff would be directed to accept payment of bills in cheques as well.
He also assured that he would convene another meerting with office-bearers of the association soon.
