NDMC launches free stress management center to mark Mental Health Day

North Delhi Mayor Avtar Singh inaugurated a free stress management clinic and counseling centre at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Center in commemoration of the World Mental Health Day. CEO of Murad Industries (UAE) Dal-Al-Murad, Executive Director of Indian Institute of Governance and Leadership Sameep Shastri and Chairman of standing committee of North DMC Jai Prakash among others were present on the occasion.

Introducing the clinic, Varsha Joshi said it will be available to the employees and officers working in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) as well as all those working in South Delhi Municipal Corporation and Income Tax Department. She said that the experienced psychiatrists would be available in this stress management clinic and counseling centre who would counsel the officials as per their individual need.

Lauding the initiative, Jai Prakash said it's the duty of the corporation to continuously provide basic amenities to the people of Delhi and make them accessible to the public.

Underlining the importance of the stress management clinic, he said in view of the stress we are experiencing in our day-to-day life, such clinics are a must. These clinics play a significant role in helping the employees de-stress themselves before re-engaging themselves in the job with a fresh mind.

The key speaker of the occasion, Dal-ul-Murad said when it comes to our mental health, we fear the negative reaction of the people. It is a matter of concern. We need to acquaint people about mental health as many still do not understand the consequences of mental stress.

Since the brain has total control over the body, he said if that it remains under stress, it might affect the overall functioning of our body. However, denying that mental stress was a disease, he averred, “We just need the right counseling to overcome the stress.”

In his speech, Sameep Shastri called mental stress an important but neglected subject. By overcoming mental stress, he said one can rejuvenate oneself for work and thereby lead a stress-free life.
