About 700 residents of Jaypee Wish Town in Sector 128, Noida, have been grappling with the issue of high levels of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) in the water supplied to them for the past two months.

According to residents, the water being supplied by the builder is not potable, as the TDS level is high, recorded between 1,500 and 1,800mg/l. They have thus become dependent on bottled water for drinking and cooking.

Renu Agarwal, a resident, said, “The high TDS water is not only affecting our health but also corroding our kitchen and bathroom pipes and other fittings.”

Speaking about the ill effects of high TDS in water, Dr Ashok Sarin, an expert in water-related diseases, said, “Such water is not safe for drinking, and it can lead to several renal diseases. Water with a TDS value of 1,000 mg/l can lead to kidney stones and stiffness in joints. As high TDS water is bitter and salty in taste, it is easy to identify if the water is potable.”

Although residents have been complaining, Noida Authority is yet to receive a formal complaint from them. HS Yadav, chief engineer in Jal Division, Noida Authority, told City Spidey, "If they have an issue, they should register their complaint on the Noida Authority helpline number."

When City Spidey took up the matter with Rajesh Singh, the facility manager of the society, he said the problem had been solved. “If residents are not satisfied with the quality of water now, we will look into the matter again,” he added.
