Vastu Apartment residents initiate campaign against open garbage burning

Amidst the rising cases of open burning of garbage in the city, residents of Vastu Apartment, a residential society in sector 55, Gurugram, have initiated an awareness campaign against the wrong practice of disposing waste.

They are putting posters in small shops and kiosks and educating them about the ill-effects of garbage burning in open space.

Ajay Nayar, convenor of Vastu Apartment said, “There are rampant cases of garbage burning across the city. The small shop and kiosk owners try to dispose the garbage by simply burning them which is adding pollution. We are trying to educate the people not to indulge in the wrong practice and dispose their waste properly.”

They pointed out that despite the ban on open burning, people were blatantly flouting the rules owing to the absence of proper waste management in the city.

“People are willing to change but blame the civic authority for failing to pick up the garbage on time. They find an easy way to dispose off the garbage,” Nayar lamented.

So far 20- 25 posters have been distributed in several places in and around the railway station area and Surat Nagar.  They have planned to distribute at least 50 posters by the end of this month in different localities.

Also the shopkeepers  are taking pledge not to burn the garbage. They are also urging the shopkeepers to advise all the customers and spread the word against the wrong practice of garbage burning.
