Noida: NMRC to ply city buses in Sector 137

Following up persistently with Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has finally borne fruit for residents of Sector 137. It has finally agreed to ply city buses through the sector.

The move comes as a huge respite for residents, who have had to depend on expensive private autos for commute so far.

NMRC conducted a feasibility study in the area on January 9 and found considerably high ridership potential in the sector.

Rajesh Pathak, depot manager, NMRC, said, “I, along with a group of residents, took a ride from a turn next to Panchsheel Balak Inter College to KPMG Business Park in Sector 142 through Sector 137.” He found two viable routes through the residential societies.

The residents proposed seven bus stops in the sector. They included stops at Sector 137 Metro station, Exotica Fresco Apartments, Purvanchal Royal Park Apartments, Blossom Country Apartments, Paras Tierea Apartments, Paramount Floraville Apartments and Gulshan Vivante Apartments.

Residents have to shell out exorbitant amounts to travel anywhere. Harish Chand Pant, a resident, narrated his daughter-in-law’s plight. He said, “She commutes to Delhi every day, and has to hire autos in the absence of public transport from the sector. She is forced to pay exorbitantly!”

He added, “If that’s not enough, after sundown, the autos charge even more.”

Another resident, Mohit Singla, complained, “Autos charge Rs 60 on average for a distance of 500 m from KPMG Business Park to Sector 137. Thankfully, things will change after we have an alternative transport option.”

Residents will have buses plying every 15 minutes during peak hours, and every 30 minutes at other times, starting from 5.30 am till 11.30 pm. The service is expected to start within a couple of days.

Pathak said that besides making the existing buses ply through the sector, some will even begin their route from the area.
