Thanks to FedAOA and residents of Ghaziabad, a 4-year-old girl from a modest background and born with three holes in the heart will soon be operated on. The operation has been scheduled for March 4, at GB Pant Hospital in Delhi.

Ganga Devi had been running from pillar to post for her daughter Shreya's treatment, when she was introduced to Alok Kumar, patron of FedAOA, in October 2016. This was soon after Kumar united Indirapuram societies to help Dorris Francis, the traffic hero from Ghaziabad who was diagnosed with cancer.

"It is a pity that poor children have to suffer so much for want of proper treatment, which is usually exorbitant," said Kumar. "If we all join hands and put in a little effort, we can save lives. That is exactly what we did. The entire fund for the operation is being provided by residents and FedAOA."

Kumar said even after completing formalities such as depositing the money and filling out prerequisite forms by January 6, the operation was scheduled for two months later. "And that, too, after pulling quite a few strings," said Kumar. "You can imagine how difficult it is for the poor to carry out such an operation even if they happen to have the money."

"Doctors told me that my daughter's heart has two small holes and a large one," said Devi. "They told me the larger one will be operated on, while the smaller holes will heal automatically. If that does not happen, Shreya will have to undergo another surgery after she is 15."
