A fire broke out at a vacant piece of land in Sector 12, Dwarka, around 6 pm on April 4.
Dry leaves and horticultural waste were dumped in the land. Onlookers called a fire brigade and it took half-an-hour to douse the fire. The fire destroyed much of the vegetation on the land.
Shanu Wadhwa, a resident of Skylark Apartments, Sector 6, who called the fire brigade and informed the police, told City Spidey, “My husband and I were passing through the area when we suddenly noticed the fire. We immediately called the fire department. It seemed that the fire was lit in a planned way. Heaps of dry leaves were burning and it seemed that the fire was lit in planned way.”
“It’s surprising that nobody in the area noticed it or stepped out of their societies. This is sad,” she added.
Such incidents point towards the poor management of dry leaves and horticultural waste in the sub city. Several resident bodies have been writing to the civic bodies concerned, but it seems no concrete step has been taken from either the DDA or the MCD.
