To simplify the process of taking complaints from teenage girls, the Ghaziabad police have planned to appoint school girls as Station House Officer. OP Singh, Director General of Police in Uttar Pradesh has given direction to SSP Ghaziabad to start this unique initiative.
Now, the head girls from schools coming under the jurisdiction of a police station would be appointed as SHO for a day.
The girls would patrol with the police forces and check law and order situation of the area. The SHO for a day would also visit schools to interact with girl students and would address the issues they face pertaining to their safety and security.
Ghaziabad police has taken this initiative after it received the idea in meeting held at police headquarters in Lucknow on Tuesday.
The idea was suggested by Alok Kumar, founder of Indirapuram-based Federation of Apartments Owners Association (FedAOA )in the meeting.
While speaking to CitySpidey, Kumar said that this move will mitigate unnecessary hesitation and fear among girls for the police.
“School girls hesitate and sometimes get afraid to approach police when they face unruly situation like eve teasing, stalking etc. This initiative would help regain their trust for the police and would also prove as image makeover for the police as well,” Kumar told.
“Besides, it will also boost confidence in girls and they would start feeling secure,” Kumar added.
On the sidelines of the meeting with Singh, Kumar complained about rising incidents of theft and burglary in Indirapuram area. Kumar also invited Singh to an event of Civic Volunteer Force going to be held in December. Kumar told that Singh has accepted the invitation and promised his presence in the event as well.
