No extension for odd-even, says CM Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi government on Monday said that the odd-even scheme will not be extended as the weather in the national capital has reportedly improved. The third edition of the odd-even scheme was implemented from November 4 to November 15. Keeping in view the deteriorating air quality of Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had last week indicated for its extension.

As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the air quality in the National Capital in the last five days of the road rationing scheme was in 'very poor' to 'severe category'.  On November 12, the Air Quality Index (AQI) entered the severe zone (425) and has continued to deteriorate further.

In fact, the Supreme Court had slammed Delhi government calling odd-even a ‘half-baked solution’ to the severe pollution level in the national capital as it was not effective in reducing pollution. The apex court also questioned the exemptions, including the two-wheeler and three-wheeler during the scheme.

“A very strong correlation can be seen between stubble burning and the spike in air pollution in North India. As soon as stubble burning began in the first week of Oct, the AQI started rising. Now that burning is coming to an end, air quality is also improving,”Kejriwal tweeted on Monday.
