Noida police busts fake call centre; arrests 45 persons

Noida: Noida police along with the cyber cell of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday busted a fake call centre and arrested 45 persons including men and women.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vaibhav Krishna said that the accused were duping people in disguise of popular online shopping platforms like Flipkart and Myntra. “They used to lure customers by offering cashbacks, lucky draws etc,” he said.

“The fake call centre was operating from Noida's sectors 6 and 7. The employees used to make fake phone calls as representatives of various online sites asking for personal details of the receiver,” the SSP added.

He further said that the representatives then used to ask receivers to transfer an amount through online payment system as a security.

“While the police arrested the employees of the call centre, the owner Dilip Saroj, resident of New Ashok Nagar and Nandan, the man who provided the data with phone numbers are absconding,” said Krishna.

The police also recovered 16 walkie talkie, 29 mobile phones and two computer systems from the call centre. All 45 arrested accused have been booked under the IT Act and Section 420 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) while search for the Saroj and his other accomplices is on.
