Green Tribunal orders upgradation of STP in Indirapuram

Indirapuram: Upset over the current state of sewage treatment plant (STP) at Indirapuram, a committee from National Green Tribunal instructed the water corporation and the municipal corporation to upgrade the STP.

The direction came after the NGT committee and former chief secretary Anoop Chandra Pandey inspected the sewage treatment plant in Indirapuram on Friday evening. Pandey was disappointed at the use of outdated technology in the STP to treat sewage water.

BN Singh, general manager of the Water Corporation, informed that the upgradation work was under process.

The STP maintained by the water corporation treats sewage from major colonies in trans-Hindon area and also intercepts and diverts sewage from Sahibabad drain. It was constructed on the direction of the Supreme Court to check pollution in river Yamuna.

There is another STP installed by the Ghaziabad Development Authority in Indirapuram with a capacity of 56 MLD.
