Gurugram: To ensure proper law and order and close vigil on anti-social elements, the Gurugram police initiated Beat Cycle patrol in the city. Under this, policemen will patrol on bicycles in narrow lanes and overcrowded areas. 

Two bicycles along with two helmets have been distributed in all the police stations of Gurugram district. Sadar police station have been given 5 bicycles for patrolling purpose.

According to the Gurugram police, the main objective of the initiative is to maintain law and order and keeping an eye on criminals. With this, the presence of Gurugram police will be more visible and it will help in curbing crime in the city.

“It will not only strengthen the police-public relation but will spread the message toward environment conservation which is why we have launched this unique initiative of Beat Cycle,” said senior police official.

“Apart from patrolling by PCR, riders, SHOs, Gurugram police will now also do patrolling on bicycles in overcrowded, narrow streets, parks, colonies and residential areas etc” he added.

The policemen patrolling on cycle is named as 'Beat cycle' and the name of the police station has been written on the bicycles. As per the order, the police personnel are required to keep the sticks, notebooks and torches while patrolling on the cycle.

“With this unique initiative, the policemen deployed on cycle patrolling would be healthy and physically fit. It will also send out a strong message to society to adopt eco-frindly way to commute,” he said.
