Indirapuram: After long wait, construction of road starts in front of DPS

Ghaziabad: The long pending construction of the road in front of Delhi Public School in Ahinsa Khand II, Indirapuram, finally started on Sunday. Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has levelled the road and started its concretisation. The road has been in shambles for several months now after its portion caved in.

In August when Ghaziabad received heavy rainfall for continuously two days in a row, the road in front of DPS caved in twice within a week jeopardising lives of hundreds of students.

However, this road, called as the Mall Road, is in dilapidated state for more than a year. Due to the civic development work including laying of water pipeline and sewer line in the locality by GDA, which got delayed by a year, the road was in dilapidated state, causing huge inconvenience to the residents of the locality.

The road had been a bone of contention between the civic authority and the residents. Before general assembly elections of 2019, the residents had threatened to boycott elections because of the pathetic condition of the road. However, they were promised that the road will be constructed post the election.

When the construction work was not started after elections, in July, the residents hit the street and blocked CISF road in order to demonstrate their anger. Unfortunately, a dozen of them had to face FIR lodged by district administration.

However, after bearing the trauma for more than a year, the residents are now finally hopeful.
