Delhi: A Judo-Karate competition was held on January 12 at the ongoing Sparkle 2019-20, an inter-society annual sports tournament, at AVB School, IP Extension. The tournament is organised by Federation of Group Housing Societies (Regd.), IP Extension. 

More than 250 children from different societies of the locality came to watch the competition with their parents. The participants were divided into different groups according to their body weight. The competition started at 10 am and went on till 3.30 pm.

After the competition, the children along with their parents assembled for award distribution ceremony.

The newly appointed SHO of the area, Rajeev Kumar, was chief guest on the occasion.  Aparna Goel, Municipal Councillor, and Kamal, Additional SHO, were guests of honour. 

Convener of the programme, Naresh Sharma, who holds a Black Belt in Karate, managed the show. The participants also demonstrated various self-defense techniques before the guests, which were well appreciated by all. 

General secretary and chief co-ordinator of the event, Ajay Gupta, briefed about the rules of the tournament. He said, “The month-long tournament will end with a colourful cultural programme and fancy-dress competition on February 2, 2020 followed by a prize distribution ceremony.” 

The organisers expect the total participation to touch 2,000 mark. Participation certificates would be given to all the participants at the end of the event. 

He thanked Sharma for inculcating not only Japanese culture in the students but also Indian culture which the new generation in general is not following.
