Noida: Residents Welfare Associations (RWA) of different residential sectors in Noida on Monday evening organised a gala event in their societies to celebrate Lohri.
According to the organisers, the residents gathered at identified venues along with family and friends to celebrate the festival with great fervour and gaiety.
RWA of Sector 50 invited Mahesh Sharma, MP of Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Ravi Kant Mishra, chairman of Janshakti Seva Samiti, as guests for the event.
Residents of Metro Apartment, a society in Sector 71, celebrated the festival by lighting bonfire and taking round of it.
Primarily a harvest festival, Lohri is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the people from Sikh community and others too. Everyone gathers at one venue and take rounds of bonfire. People wear traditional dresses and even present folk dance to make the celebration memorable.
Lohri is not only about reaping the fruits of labour, it also acknowledges the elemental forces, especially fire. The fire is supposed to douse sadness and bring happiness in one's life. It is a time when all the farmers get together in order to thank god for giving them such a wonderful harvest.
