SSP Ghaziabad cautions people to avoid selling old phones

Ghaziabad: In order to control the cyber and general crime in the city, SSP Ghaziabad, Kalanidhi Naithani, has issued an advisory to the public. The advisory cautioned public to avoid trade of their used or old mobile phones in exchange of other items.

The advisory warns that it may lead to misuse of the phones in executing cyber and general crimes by criminals. If that happens, the responsibility of the crime will put upon the person whose phone was used in the crime, the advisory warns.

PRO of Naithani told CitySpidey that this advisory is issued just to aware the public.

“Many times, criminals take advantage of phones registered in the name of other people to execute crimes. In such situations, innocents get involved and real criminals manage to buy more time to stay out of laws' hands. The public must stay alert, aware and cautious to avert these untoward situations,” he said.

The PRO also added that no specific case or a looming threat related to misuse of old cellphones was behind issuing this advisory.

However, the newly appointed SSP was laying emphasis on controlling cyber crime in the city. He also mentioned it in his first briefing to the reporters after taking charge of the office last week.
