Noida: In recent times, e-rickshaws have become the most easiest and cheapest mode of transport but at the same time, they are also responsible for creating traffic jams and blocking roads for even pedestrians.
Noida is known to be a jam-packed city and with unorganised halting of this mode of transportation. The roads are often found blocked. The major part of the problem can be seen around metro stations and markets where the e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws are parked blocking the entire stretch of the road waiting for their passengers.
Talking to CitySpidey, Sanjana, a student said, “These men often pick fights and use abusive language if they are told by the passersby to not block the road”. She narrated that one day, one of her male friend was cornered by drivers after he asked them to stand in a line and not occupy the entire road.
Not just blocking the roads, drivers of this mode of transportation often halt wherever they want, don’t follow any traffic rule. Brajesh Sharma, a resident of Noida said, “Autos and rickshaws should drive in a single lane and not occupy the entire road. This will give a free space to the car drivers, who often get stuck.”
He further added, “Their haphazard movement without any signal creates nuisance. Often, accidents happen due to this reason.”
Few residents of Gaur City in Greater Noida even demanded to ban the entry of public transport. Anita Prajapati, a resident of Gaur City's 6th Avenue said, “Every evening, the traffic around city plaza witnesses congestion because the autos are parked there. It is worst that they use residential routes, for instance, e-rickshaw drivers enter Gaur City 1 to reach Gaur City 2.”
Sharing the same concerns, Anika, a resident of Gaur City said, “I feel, it is not safe now. After so many criminal activities, these drivers have the luxury to park anywhere. Nobody questions them and we never know why the drivers enter residential townships.”
