Noida: Going strict against the defaulters, the Noida Industrial Development Authority on Thursday imposed a hefty fine on 16 residential societies and sweetmeat sellers located in different residential and industrial sectors for flouting Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules. 

The authority imposed a fine of Rs 5.47 lakh. The figure is a cumulative amount of money imposed on 16 residential societies and sweetmeat sellers in the city.

According to the officials of the authority, these societies and sweetmeat sellers, which fall under bulk waste generator category, have to make arrangement of waste disposal within their compounds. Despite several reminders and intimation, the defaulters did not make arrangement for SWM.

The officials said that even after giving notices and warning, the societies and sweetmeat sellers were floating the rules continuously. Following which, the authority initiated action against these residential societies. 

I P Singh, officer-on-special duty with the authority, said that the societies and sweetmeat sellers on which penalty was imposed are well known in the city. They were not following the rules due to which a hefty fine were imposed on them.
