Gurugram: Over 30, 000 women have registered for all-women marathon organised by the state government to mark the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8.

The district administration has set up a kiosk near Mini Secretariat to facilitate the registration process.

In this regard, Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepak Saharan on Monday held a meeting with the members of the organising committee and reviewed the arrangements made for organising the marathon.

During the meeting, he instructed them to open more such kiosks in crowded places to help women who are unable to register themselves online.

The police department in collaboration with the district administration is organising promotional runs every day in various parts of the city. These promotional runs are being organised from February 22 and will continue till March 4 to encourage women to participate in the upcoming marathon.

The marathon will begin on March 8 from Cyber Hub and will pass through iconic areas of the district.

To make the marathon a success, police station wise promotional run is being organised to connect more and more women.

Apart, to attract more women, organisers are creating buzz on social media through eye catching bollywood dialogues such as 'Mere bete aayenge, mere karan arjun aayenge mujhe bhi gurugram marathon main lekar jayege' (my sons will come, my Karan-Arjun will come and will take me to Gurugram marathon) from the film Karan Arjun, Basanti from Sholay all eager to run for marathon with a dialogue 'Tange wali ramghar chalogi...Nahi Basanti aaj Gurugram Marathon chali' (Tonga driver will you go to Ramghar....No, Basanti will go to Gurugram Marathon today) or Kareena's iconic character Geet convincing people to participate in marathon 'aap convince ho gaye ya main aur bolu?' (are you convinced or should I speak more). 

Up to 10 lakh rupees have been kept for women participating in this marathon under different categories. The women can participate in the marathon in various categories including 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, 21 kilometers and 42.2 kilometers. To participate in this marathon, women have to register themselves at www.gurugrammarathon.in

OP Singh, Principal Secretary of Sports Department, said women were excited about the race and are  enthusiastically registering for it. 

According to him, about 1300 registrations have been done for the longest distance of 42.2 km. Similarly, more than 3,000 registrations have been done for 21 kilometers, more than 7,000 for 10 kilometers and about 15,000 registrations for 5 kilometers.

The highest number of registrations have been done by women in the age group of 18 to 35 years, whose number is more than 18,000. Similarly, more than 3,000 registrations have been done by women in the age group of 35-50 years. More than 3,000 girls in the age group of 13-18 years have registered for the race. 

Singh informed that the women above 50 years of age are also eager to participate in this race and out of these more than 350 women have registered themselves.
