Gaur City: Women distribute food, clothes to labourers' children

Greater Noida: A group of active women residents from Gaur City's 11th Avenue distributed raw foods and clothes to over 30 children at a daycare situated near the township in Greater Noida West.

The school-cum-daycare is for the children of the labourers who are working in the Gaur City project. The shabby, dingy rooms made out of the temporary wooden walls in the middle of several shanties accommodate newborns to children of 12 years of age while the parents are at work.

The school is operated by Gaur Sons and has a teacher appointed to take care of these children.

Aprajeeta Sethi along with five other women from Aprajita NGO visited the school and distributed chocolates, biscuits and samosas (a pastry containing vegetables) to the children. She told CitySpidey that the group also gave packets of different lentils to the mothers and provided clothes to the children.

“We distributed lentils as it is a protein-rich supplement which helps in the growth of children and keeps mothers fit.” Sethi said.

The group also spoke to children on the importance of education, hygiene and cleanliness.

Monica Ranjan, a resident of 11th Avenue said, “The place was stinking and the children had no slates to write on or proper books or stationary. There were no proper amenities for the children, we thought to contribute the least we could in making them happy.”

The shanty where these 30 odd children spend their eight hours daily has no functional cooler. Citing this, the caretaker requested the group to provide a cooler for summers.
