Indian govt asks states to enforce work from home in private companies

New Delhi: With the total number of coronavirus positive cases in India touching 195, the government of India (GOI) has asked the states to enforce 'work from home' (WFH) for private-sector employees except those working in emergency and essential services.

The GOI has also instructed that all Group B and C central government employees would attend office alternatively in order to reduce crowding in the government complexes.

Notably, the Gurugram administration on Wednesday had already instructed private firms to work from home.

CitySpidey spoke to few residents of Gautam Budh Nagar who welcomed the move of the government.

Talking to CitySpidey, Sumil Jalota, VP operations at Axtrum solutions, situated in Sector 132, Noida, said, "We didn't wait for the government's directive, we allowed WFH from Wednesday itself. Those who did not have a laptop (either of the company’s or their personal) have been allowed to carry their office systems to their homes.”

Meanwhile, it is being said that most of the companies would have to update their infrastructure to accommodate work from home. Ankush, an IT expert, said, "The MNC's are still using desktop and restrictions on VPN access. WFH will require them to improve their infrastructure.”

Many companies who have already implemented work from home have also handed digital hand outs to their employees on 'Ethics about WFH'.

"Messages like 'Work from Home is not work for home' and ' work from home, not work at home', are being circulated on our official  group on a social app,” said Chandan Sharma, a BPO worker, over phone call.

The government in its order also says that no scheduled international commercial flights will be allowed to land in India for a week from March 22. All railways and civil aviation services shall also suspend all concessional travel except for students, patients and handicapped.

The government will issue a special advisory for senior citizens and have asked children below the age of 10 years and citizen above 65 years of age to stay indoor.
