 Gurugram: District administration here geared up to maintain law and order during janata curfew going to be observed on Sunday on a call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

Envisaged by none other than the prime minister of the country himself, the janata curfew is a day-long self-confinement to be observed across the country on March 22 to ward off the dreaded coronavirus.

The administration, on Friday, appointed 39 duty magistrates and kept six on standby to maintain peace in the district in view of the janata curfew.

An official notification issued by District Magistrate Amit Khatri read: “The prime minister has called for a public curfew across the country on Sunday to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. This curfew will be from 7 am to 9 pm. Assistant Commissioner of Police and SHOs in their respective areas of the district have been appointed as duty magistrates to maintain the law and order situation.”

Meanwhile, the state government has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the district restricting assembly of people to a maximum of five people in the public places.

Similarly, the transport department has also suspended public transportation in the state on March 22 from 7 am to 9 pm. Officials and employees are also being directed to stay home. The department also directed general manager of Haryana Roadways to provide mask to all the employees to ensure hygiene at offices, bus depots and workshops. All the buses will be sanitised before plying on the road.

Meanwhile, market associations have supported the Prime Minister Modi’s call for public curfew. The Central Market Association made an appeal to shopkeepers in Sadar Bazar to observe the janata curfew on Sunday in view of the threat posed by coronavirus.
