Delhi metro services may resume from September 1: Officials

New Delhi: Metro train services might be allowed to reopen in the Unlock 4 phase starting September 1, officials said on Monday.

However, schools and colleges are unlikely to reopen. Bars may be allowed to sell liquor over the counter for take away.

Metro services were suspended in the late March to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Earlier on Sunday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hinted at the possibility of re-opening of Delhi metro services.

Kejriwal said, “We have requested Centre to allow re-opening of Delhi Metro in a phased manner, on a trial basis, as Covid-19 situation in Delhi is under control now. I hope the Centre will take a decision soon.”

On August 20, MD-DMRC Dr Mangu Singh inspected the Rajiv Chowk metro station. The DMRC officials described it as routine inspection but it raised the expectations of resumption of services.
