MP Gautam Gambhir inaugurates giant air purifier at Gandhi Nagar market

New Delhi: East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir on Thursday inaugurated a giant air purifier in Gandhi Nagar market which is also known as Asia’s largest readymade garment and textile hub.

The first-of-its-kind air purifier is 12-feet tall and it will be effective in an area of 1,000 square meters. The purifier will be able to clean 2 lakh cubic meter of air every day. It was funded by the Gautam Gambhir Foundation.

Earlier in January, Gambhir had inaugurated a first-of-its-kind smog tower at Lajpat Nagar’s central market as a pilot project.

A statement from his office stated that following positive response from the people in that area, Gambhir decided to install more air purifiers in markets in East Delhi.

“I know that these air purifiers will not solve the problem completely but something has to be done. These air purifiers will have a major impact on people living in nearby areas. I don't believe that getting yourself advertised on every traffic signal is the solution to such a major problem which affects each and every Delhiite especially our elders,” Gambhir was quoted as saying in the statement.
