New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has taken a new initiative for making the public toilets in the West Zone more hygienic and functional. SDMC has decided to install facilities like sanitary napkin vending machines, napkin incinerator machines, hand dryers, and rubber mats in public toilets.
Under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Synergy Steel Ltd provided 15 sanitary napkin vending machines, 10 napkin incinerator machines, 20 hand dryers, and 300 rubber mats and Century Plywoods (I) Ltd has provided 20 sanitary napkins vending machines, 10 napkin incinerator machines and 28 hand dryers for public toilets in West Zone.
The initiative was taken to improve SDMC’s ranking in Swachh Sarvekshan 2021 and to get ODF++ certificate.
Rahul Singh, Deputy Commissioner of West Zone said, “Public toilets will have all the facilities for the users especially ladies. This will also help in reducing sanitary waste in the West Zone.”
“These machines will be installed in public toilets located in Punjabi Bagh, Raja Garden, Rajouri Garden, Janak Puri, Vikash Puri, Subhash Nagar, Milap Nagar, Uttam Nagar, Binda Pur and Tilak Nagar under West Zone,” he added.
Rajeev Kumar Jain, Superintendent Engineer and Nodal Officer of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) has thanked the Managing Directors of both the companies for their support and contribution to SDMC in increasing their rankings in Swachh Sarvekshan 2021.
He said, “Now 60 toilets in the west zone will have all the amenities of excellent category in Delhi. This will also help to get ODF++ certificate.” The inspection of toilets may be carried out by a third party appointed by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
