'Domestic violence doesn’t impact a single person but breaks a family'

New Delhi: Domestic violence is often ignored by our society and is often guarded by families. We can never  imagine how badly it can impact a person’s life. While most people tend to ignore such violence, there are people like Acharya Kiran Prakash who choose to fight against it.

Kiran, 46 years old lady resident of Omaxe-Nile in Sector 49, Gurugram is a social activist who works on domestic violence and women  empowerment and is also a passionate singer. Kiran got married at the early age of 20. She hails from Kota, Rajasthan.

When CitySpidey spoke to Kiran about her married life, she said, “The way I was treated at my maternal family, it was a reverse situation at my laws. Domestic violence doesn’t impact a single person but breaks a family.”

Kiran used to be a brilliant student academically. Her mom and dad always used to have a sweet fight about her future. They always wanted her to achieve something good in her life. Apart from studies, she had good vocal skills and used to sing.

At the age of 8, Kiran won the Akhil Bhartiya music competition and received awards from Ravi and Jaidev legendary music composers of Bollywood. Further, Ravi approached Kiran’s father to send her to Bombay for singing, but Kiran’s father denied saying let it be a hobby for her, not anything beyond.

After getting married, Kiran’s life got completely reversed, she didn’t get the happy marriage that she dreamt of.  Her husband and in-laws turned out to be bigots and started harassing her mentally. After becoming the mother of two boys, Kiran decided to leave her husband as this marriage was impacting her children. She decided to file for a divorce which is still going on.

What Kiran went through in her marriage life, she doesn’t want anyone to suffer through the same. Now she helps women who become victims of domestic violence and free them from their restricted boundaries. She now lives her dream by continuing singing which she left in her childhood.

Like Kiran, many people face domestic violence, especially women. But like Kiran, not every can afford to stand up and fight against this evil. Let’s get inspired by Kiran and fight such issues because one stand can inspire others as well.
