Dwarka: Defunct street lights pose imminent danger in Sec 11

Dwarka: Defunct street lights are a perennial issue as many roads in Dwarka remain engulfed in darkness. One such dark spot is Ashirwad Chowk in Sector 11. The entire stretch has become unsafe for people to use after dark.

When CitySpidey visited the area, the street lights were not working properly and the whole lane was dark. The installation of street lights serves no purpose if the area is not well lit.

Geeta Malik, a resident of Shahjahanabad Apartment in Sector 11 said, “These dark lanes are a big issue in Dwarka. The authority should take action on this because it's very unsafe for us to step out in dark lanes.”

Naveen Kumar, a resident from Sector 11 said, “This road is used by many people, but the road is virtually dark if one happens to be there any time after dusk and particularly in the night. It is unsafe for them.”

At the particular stretch, there are no lights. Those lights which were probably been installed some time back are not working and have not been repaired and replaced. Such dark and unguarded spaces are favourite places for trouble makers, drug addicts and for people who want to drink in public.

Vineeta Mittal, a resident from Gulmarg Apartment in Sector 11 said, “Because of darkness, the neighbourhood becomes unsafe and the security of residents, particularly women get compromised.”

The police should patrol such places and the authorities should immediately install lights and ensure adequate facilities in the evening and night.
