Dwarka: Dark lane becomes unsafe for residents in Sec 10

Dwarka: The streetlights are not working on a road from Sector 10 metro station to the lane of Sector 10 near Venkateshwar International school in Dwarka. The entire stretch has become unsafe for people to use after dark.

When CitySpidey visited the area, the street lights were not working properly and were blinking haphazardly. The installation of street lights serves no purpose if the area is not well lit.

Residents and RWAs of the societies say the lane has become a hub for hooligans and anti-social elements after sunset, and that they are concerned about security in the area.

On Saturday, scooty-borne miscreants killed a man with the knife in Sector 10 at 7 pm, ahead of Marigold Hotel. Several police teams are involved in solving this case. As the lane was pitch dark, these incidents are taking place.

Arun Kumar, a resident from Sector 10 said, “There is no mechanism which could help the community people to approach the authorities and resolve the problems soon. Another issue is that most of the street lights are covered with tree branches which need to get trimmed regularly.”

Asha Sharma, a resident from Vinayak Apartments said, “We really need a platform to highlight these issues and enable the sleeping department to wake up and realise their responsibility for what they are being highly paid by the government.”

Nitya Goyal, a metro commuter from Sector 10 said, “I feel very unsafe after sunset because there are no streetlights in this whole lane.”

Rajiv Sachdeva, another resident from Sector 10 said, “The whole area behind our society is pitch dark after sunset. We have been facing security issues due to people drinking and other illegal activities in the area.”

The residents want the authorities to provide lights at the dark spot and alleviate the problems of the citizens.
