The residents said they have been facing overflow of sewers for the last one month and now the condition has only worsened during the rainy season. They rued that the dirty water accumulated on the road forces them to pass the stretch through unhygienic conditions.

Moreover, the sewer and water supply lines in the area are laid closely, resulting in contamination of the drinking water supply.

Harmeet Singh, former councilor of Gandhi Nagar said, “We are bearing the brunt of the callous attitude of the MCG for creating the mess in the area. We have made several complaints on the matter but nothing has been done to fix the issue permanently.”

Vikaram Yadav, a resident said, “We cannot even stand outside of our own house because of the unbearable stench coming out of the overflowed sewers. Accumulated water is also providing the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.”
