A weekly inconvenience for East End Apartments' residents

The weekly market in New Ashok Nagar has become the cause of an inconvenience for residents of East End Apartments, a residential society in Mayur Vihar I Extension.

The road in front of the society that connects Noida to Mayur Vihar witnesses chaotic traffic every Friday. Vendors encroach upon the entire lane. And what troubles the residents the most is that the vendors even encroach upon the area at the front entrance of the society. The result is that entering and leaving the society becomes a major hassle.

Alka Govil, a resident of the society, adds, “Outsiders come to shop in New Ashok Nagar and park their vehicles under the Metro line, right in front of the society’s entrance.”

She has been raising the issue in front of the authorities for quite some time. “In last three years, I have written to Mahesh Giri (an MP), Manish Sisodia, deputy chief minister of Delhi, and the Metro department, but to no effect. Nearly 5,000 residents of the society are facing trouble due to this,” she says.

What adds to the residents’ woes is illegal parking close to the society. “Illegal parking is being handled by someone. Now, it has become a permanent parking zone,” says a shopkeeper on condition of anonymity.

With so many vendors, vehicles and e-rickshaws in the area, residents fear that problems are likely to increase if civic authorities do not pay attention.
