Sky Gardens: Residents raise improper safety system after basement fire

Greater Noida: Alarmed by an incident of basement fire two days back, residents of Shri Radha Sky Gardens, Greater Noida West, raised the issue of an improper fire safety system in the society.

They alleged that the builder acquired the No Objection Certificate (NOC) without an adequate fire safety system as there is no proper fire safety equipment in the towers. There are no fire alarm safety systems in society. There are no hose pipes, no sprinklers and this puts their safety at risk.

According to the residents, during the incident of fire in the basement of towers 6 and 7, there are no fire safety equipment to control fire. Due to this, the lives of around 60 families were at risk.

Residents said that for almost 12 months, the water was logged in the basement of the society and there are many nude wires which are directly connected to the electric cable. They demanded proper checking by the Senior Fire Officer. As per them, the Senior Fire Officer had inspected the society earlier, but there was no action taken by the builder and the maintenance team.

Gaurav Patel, a resident of society said, “In April 2021, the fire officer inspected our society and found insufficient fire safety system. For the last six months, there is zero per cent improvement. I lived on the 16th floor and if there is any mishappening, there is no fire equipment to rescue us. Life of 70-80 families is at risk.”

“Nine towers of our society do not have proper fire safety equipment. There is only one fire station in Noida Extension which is 9 km away from our society and it may take more than 30 minutes to reach out to the place of incident,” he added.

Another resident who did not wish to be named said, “Our life is at risk. From the first day in our society, there is insufficient fire safety equipment. Insufficient fire extinguishers, sprinklers, or hose pipes in the towers. Just only for NOC, the builder installed only a few pieces of equipment. Basement is lacking fire equipment.”

CitySpidey also tried to contact the maintenance in charge of the society but there was no response from their side. We will update the story as soon as we get a response.
