A tower lift got stuck in Greater Noida West's Saya Zion Society. Two children were trapped in the lift for 40 minutes on Sunday. The incident happened after a power cut in society. The power cut occurred owing to heavy rainfall in the region. Residents said these incidents have been quite frequent.
Pawan Kalra, a resident of the society and also the parent of the children who were stuck in the lift, said, “The incident happened at approximately 7:50 in the evening. There was heavy rain in our locality so I called my children to come back home. As soon as they entered the lift, there was a power cut. There was an automatic battery system earlier, in case there is a power cut, the lift would have opened automatically at the nearest floor.
However, this time, it didn't work and then they tried to use intercom for rescue but that didn't work. They started panicking and we were extremely worried. Finally, I found that they were stuck on the third floor. There was no maintenance in charge for help, we called one of them for a lift key, if there was any, but they weren’t aware of that also. There was no process for an emergency exit. We could rescue them after forty minutes. A 13 years old boy and 9 years old girl were stuck in there for so long. The lift is of Otis Elevator company."
