Things Virgil Abloh will be remembered for

Virgil Abloh, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear, died on Sunday, November 28 after a two year battle with a rare type of cancer. His sudden death has left the industry mourning. In honour of the late designer's untimely death, we've compiled a list of his most significant contributions to fashion, music, and art.

Abloh, the undisputed king of luxury streetwear, had positioned himself as one of the world's most sought-after designers in just a few years.

Here are the most iconic fashion moments of the designer!

OFF-WHITE™ C/O "VIRGIL ABLOH"

Off-WhiteTM was defined as the "grey space between black and white" by Virgil Abloh's signature label, created in 2013. Although it was a rather intellectual foundation to build a fashion label, Abloh's objective was simple: Off-WhiteTM was only a vessel for creative endeavours.

LOUIS VUITTON FALL/WINTER 2020 MENSWEAR COLLECTION

Preceding the beginning of the pandemic, Abloh took to Paris to introduce the Maison's Fall/Winter 2020 Menswear assortment. Set against a sky-blue background, flawless custom-fitted suits and cowhide designed sacks walked down the runway. Abloh closed the show in, as a matter of fact, a brand name hoodie.

LOUIS VUITTON SPRING/SUMMER 2019 MENSWEAR COLLECTION

Abloh's debut show for Louis Vuitton, held in the famed Parisian château Palais-Royal, was a watershed moment for the legacy Maison, heralding a new era for the label under the guidance of the first Black artistic director— a multi-coloured runway marked the start of the brand's more diverse direction.

OFF-WHITE™ SPRING/SUMMER 2019 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION

Abloh combined fashion and athleisure in the Spring/Summer 2019 Ready-To-Wear OFF-WHITE™ collection.
In another spectacular beginning, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner gave us a twin moment, strolling down the industrial-style track in matching white costumes.

VIRGIL ABLOH "FIGURES OF SPEECH"

In 2019, Abloh published "FIGURES OF SPEECH," a book about his life's work. The nearly 500-page almanack included 1,800 never-before-seen pictures from Abloh's vaults, with the catalogue delving deeply into his work and inspiration.

IKEA MARKERAD

Abloh's partnership with Swedish furniture manufacturer IKEA stands out as a multi-hyphenate creative.
The limited-edition capsule, according to IKEA, "builds on minimalist designs with the aesthetic references and subversive features typical of Virgil's work."

"TILL DEATH DO US PART"

One of the finest works of Virgil, Hailey Beiber wedding dress, was designed by Off-White, which took social media by storm. Hailey Bieber's stunning Off-White™ lace gown is one of the history books of the fashion industry. Abloh's take on wedding apparel incorporated a striking visual element, a veil inscribed with Bieber's vows "Till Death Do Us Part," which was both unique and classic.

2020: Mercedes-Benz collaboration

In 2020, Abloh collaborated with Mercedes-Benz on 'Project Geländewagen,' a one-of-a-kind art/concept automobile based on the marque's iconic G-Series SUV, also known as the G-Wagen. Abloh's characteristic deconstructed look was applied to the boxy 444, transforming it into a weathered race vehicle.

Abloh's passing is, without a doubt, a misfortune. While he accomplished such a vast amount in his about 15-year profession, we're genuinely disheartened by the reality we will not at any point know what else he might have accomplished in the future. The king of street style fashion has taught us true fashion, as comfort and luxury can walk hand in hand.
