Delhi schools to be closed from Friday until further notice

Union Environment Minister Gopal Rai, in a statement on December 1, 2021, said that all physical classes are to be suspended from Friday, December 3 until further notice. This decision has been taken in lieu of the increased AQI levels in various parts of Delhi NCR.

Ever since the inception of the pandemic, the journey of students back to schools has become rather impossible. Especially in Delhi NCR, where improvements in the Covid situation are neutralized by rising pollutants in the air.

On Thursday, the apex court questioned the Delhi government on its decision to resume physical classes. Rai said, “We had reopened schools considering that the air quality would improve. However, the air pollution levels have increased again and we have decided to shut down schools from Friday till further orders.”

The AQI of Delhi at 5 pm as per the Central Pollution Control Board and Delhi Pollution Control Committee is severe in various parts of the capital. PitamPura 453, Shadipur 468, North Campus 402 and Mundka 460.
