Noida: Residents of Gaur Sportswood await a neighbouhood park

On November 17, 2021, Noida Authority started work on the area residents' long-pending demand of a park on a four-acre vacant plot of land adjacent to the Gaur Sportswood, a residential highrise society in Sector 79. However, when several residents visited the spot, they noticed that the saplings which were planted on the instructions of the Authority were already dead. Also, no pedestrian jogging track and grass were there. According to the residents of Gaur Sportswood, till now, there is no park for them in their area and this park development work was their only hope.

Dinesh Gupta, a resident of Gaur Sportswood, says, “I visited this plot today in the morning and saw that the plants were already dead. The park was being used as a dumping ground for garbage. I saw that the land was still not completely cleaned. I can see some construction waste still there, how can plants survive? It is a death trap of concrete. It was a hope for us as our kids were finally getting a space where they could indulge in some outdoor activities.”

Rohit Kumar, 40, a resident of Gaur Sportswood, says, “After extensive follow-ups by us, Noida Authority started work on the Sector 80 park which is right next to the C&D plant. This park is mandated as per NGT guidelines. For nearby 7X residents, it is disheartening to see the much-awaited park being developed poorly. There is no grass, walking track, or benches. The least one would expect is the park to be green however it’s just a dust bowl, probably the park exists only on paper”.

Sanwarjeet Singh, 38, a resident of Gaur Sportswood and a  complainant says, “For the last two years this park was being used as a dumping ground for waste material and construction debris. The portion of this plot number C-48 was always deemed for the development of the park. So, we wrote letters to the authority to clean this area. However, after visiting the place, it was seen that the work was not done properly. There was nothing in the name of the park”.
