Now that the sweetest singing voice of India, Lata Mangeshkar, has gone forever, we are only left with her songs to remember and cherish her by. Well, the India we know today had always lived with her singing voice, grown with it, fed on it, celebrated it and loved it.
When Lata sang 'ayega aane wala' her first mega hit from the movie Mahal (1949), picturised on Madhubala and composed by Khemchand Prakash, she was just 19. And when she sang 'didi tera devar deewana' in 1994 hit movie 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' for Madhuri Dixit, a song which caught the imagination of the whole nation, including famed artist M.F Hussain, then Lata was 65 years old.
The day she went quiet and took to her eternal sleep, we are left holding on to what we are left with, 10 of her most celebrated songs, through generations.
Aye Dil e Nadan
Dil hoom hoom kare
Jab pyar kiya to darna kya
Satyam Shivam Sudaram
Didi tera devar deewana
Lagg jaa gale
Oo Sajnaa Barakhaa
Vande Mataram
Aayega Aanewala
Jara si aahat hoti hai
