SDMC inaugurates second Nigam Haat at Sarita Vihar

South Delhi Municipal Corporation's Central Zone has started the second Nigam Haat at Sarita Vihar. Zonal Deputy Commissioner Radha Krishan and local area councillor Neetu Chaudhary inaugurated the haat. Senior officials of SDMC were also present at the occasion.

More than 30 eco-friendly products will be available at Nigam Haat. People can purchase these products made from unused and abandoned items/materials.

Deputy Commissioner Radha Krishan said that the first such Nigam Haat located at Lajpat Nagar has been drawing a good response from citizens. Nigam Haat is based on the concept of selling the idea of 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). He said their primary focus is to ensure disposal of waste at the source level and to make citizens aware of the segregation of waste and other Swachhta related activities. He added that Nigam Haats will be started in other areas also.

Besides this, SDMC organized a Swachhta Awareness Programme in South Delhi's Hauz Khas market. The awareness programme was organized by SDMC with the help of Why Waste Wednesdays Foundation in which more than 500 shopkeepers and consumers took part in games based on Swachhta initiatives. On the occasion, cloth bags were distributed to encourage people to give up single-use plastic bags. People also signed pledges to segregate waste at the source and give up plastic bags. Such awareness programmes will be planned in various markets of the South Zone.

Through such initiatives, SDMC aims to promote segregation of waste at source, reuse of recycled items, use of cloth bags instead of plastic bags shopping purpose, home composting of wet waste through such initiatives.
