They say early bird catches the worm. And quite rightly so! With rising levels of pollution and urbanisation, it is all the more important to take steps towards protecting the environment. It appears residents of Ganpati Apartments, a residential society in Dwarka’s Sector 9, have taken cue from the precept.

Residents of the society organised a tree-planting drive in association with Federation of Residents Welfare Associations (FORWAS) of Sector 9. From adult to the elderly, everyone took part, but it's the kids who were the most enthusiastic, as they went about planting saplings in the society premises.

Dr KS Bhati, president of FORWAS and also president of the society, said, "The purpose was to make children sensitive about the importance a clean and green environment. I would also like to appeal to the RWAs and the managements of other societies to take steps towards saving the environment."

When City Spidey spoke to Stuti, one of the kids, she said, "It was a great experience. Our campaign has set an example for the city: Children should take the responsibility of making their area greener and cleaner."

Sangeeta Kashayap, a resident who looks after the teenagers' club of the society, along with members of the club, also carried a cleaning drive in and around the society premises."Children were quite enthusiastic about the programme. They came on time and did a great job. We really admire them. They’ve also expressed their desire to be part of such activities regularly," Kashyap said.

Of course, young members of the teenagers’ club - Bulbul Bhati, Blossom, Kshitij, Lakshya, Shruti, Karan, Aarav, Divyansh, Noor Ishta, Singhda, Stuti and Mannat - were all present for the drive. "We enjoyed the tree-planting and cleaning activities. We are looking forward to more such events ahead," said Kshitiz.

Joining them were the top brass of the managing committee that included TP Singh and Captain RP Sharma - secretary and vice-president of Ganpati Apartments, respectively.
