Managing committees of societies in Mayur Vihar Phase I, Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension and Vansundhara Enclave have asked residents to follow Diwali guidelines issued by the Delhi government.

In its advisory, the government has asked resident bodies to extend their support to the campaign against firecrackers. The campaign was launched on October 24. The advisory was issued as an attempt to control the city’s air and noise pollution, as it has already reached alarming levels.

A copy of the advisory pinned on the notice board of Samachar Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension clearly reads, “The government has put a complete ban on the use of sound-emitting firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am. Hence, all residents of the society are requested to stick to the guidelines.”

Ratan Lal Gupta, secretary of Vardhaman Apartments in Mayur Vihar  Phase I Extension, told City Spidey that the managing committee had informed residents about the campaign in a meeting on October 23. “We need all residents to cooperate in keeping pollution levels down. At the meeting, we have decided to celebrate a cracker-free Diwali,” he said.

The Joint Forum of Vasundhara Enclave has issued similar notices to all 22 societies in the area. “All societies have been asked to strictly follow the advisory guidelines,” said Anil Pandey, president of the Joint Forum of Vansudhara Enclave.

As part of the campaign, sub-divisional magistrates of the area will hold meetings with RWAs to sensitise them to the city’s air and noise pollution levels.
