Gurugram: Smart water ATMs were started by the Harayana government for people. However, one of them is not meeting its purpose and instead creating problems.

Several area residents are concerned that the Water ATM built in front of Apollo Hospital on old Gurgaon Delhi road may end up causing more harm than good. One of the major problems with it is its odd location. The said water ATM is in between the newly started Atul Kataria Chowk flyover and the service lane. This is causing view blockage to the drivers which may result in fatal accidents. Residents are appealing to authorities concerned and asking them to take necessary actions as soon as possible.

The Smart water ATM was installed six years ago and functions occasionally only when a worker is present to operate the machine. The location of the Water ATM in the middle of the main raid defeats its actual purpose. Residents highlight that no one would go in the middle of the road to get water.

Kalyan Singh Sharma, a retired advocate (Indian Revenue Services) and a resident of sector 14, says, "I wonder if smart water ATMs are installed for helping people or just with the agenda of advertising and earning revenue? Another smart water ATM located within 200 metres of this ATM, near the footpath, is more convenient for the people. If the sole purpose of the Smart Water ATM is advertising, they can simply put a pole, instead of a water ATM that occupies so much area and is obstructing the road view."

Singh continues, "This water ATM should be relocated to an appropriate place at the earliest. It would be ideal if this is done along with the Flyover work itself. The flyover work is almost complete and if the water ATM is not shifted now it will take a lot of effort to bring the attention of the government and officials for this particular work."

Hoshiyar Singh (Rtd) Central Government Officer and resident of sector 14 says, "The location of the Water ATM is not convenient for the people to go in the middle of the road. It is an obstruction to the free flow of traffic. They should just take it and install it somewhere else which can solve all the issues."

Suresh (Rtd.) Air Force Wing commander says, "It is located where the flyover ends. It blocks the view of the incoming traffic on the service lane. It can be dangerous for people and can cause accidents."
