It is a historic day as old Indian shuttler PV Sindhu won her maiden gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham by beating Michelle Li from Canada Li 21-15, 21-13 in Women’s Singles. The world number seven from India outplayed her 13th-ranked opponent in front of a packed crowd at the NEC arena.
The smooth victory adds another feather to Sindhu’s illustrious cap. Previously Sindhu had won silver at the 2018 CWG and Bronze in the 2014 CWG. Apart from this, The World number 7 athlete from Hyderabad is the only second individual athlete from India to win two consecutive Olympic medals.
Sindhu who had lost to Michelle Li 8 years ago in Glassgow, was on top of her game in the final match on August 7, 2022. She defeated Li easily with 21-15. Li tried to make a comeback in the second set but Sindhu recovered quickly to win the set with 21-13.
