Noida: The drain covers of several drains in Sector 18 market of Noida are missing, creating trouble for commuters, pedestrians and motorists. The area has become accident prone and the shopkeepers say that the footfall in the market has fallen because of this.
The traders of the market have written a letter to the CEO of Noida Authority urging to find a permanent solution for the rampant theft or missing of drain covers.
President of Sector-18 Market Association, Sushi Kumar Jain says, "During the market reconstruction work last year, the drains in the vicinity were initially covered with concrete cement blocks; however, nearly all of the covers were destroyed during the recent cleaning of drains, so the authority replaced them with metal covers, which are no longer there."
He further informs that tires of four-wheelers or autos often get stuck in drains because of the missing covers, causing damage and accidents. He also says that open drains emit foul smell, causing inconvenience to everyone. Traders of the market demand that small removable concrete slab covers should be used instead of metal covers so that no car vehicles will be stuck.
