Dwarka: Life and times of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in CCRT

Shaheed Bhagat Singh's contribution to the Indian freedom struggle is unmatched. His charisma, bravado and sacrifices made him a popular hero throughout the country. To commemorate his birth anniversary, a dance drama took place in the CCRT (Centre of Cultural resources and training) main auditorium, sector 7 Dwarka on September 28, 2022. The drama titled 'Shahadat' was written and directed by Sheikh Khairuddin.

The play focussed on Bhagat Singh's attitude and extremist revolutionary actions during the freedom struggle. As it turned out there was quite a behind-the-stage struggle as well by the production team to bring the play on the stage. As gathered by Sheikh Khairuddin, the act was prepared in just 3 days. He says, "Many of my prominent actors got busy with ramleelas and tv serials."

Nevertheless, some of the characters delivered commendable performances. Abhishek Kumar who played the role of Ashfaq was convincing. Dr Sk Singh who played the character of the English officer was also very good. Moreover, the light and sound of the play were well done. It ended on a suggestive note with music showing Ashfaq and Bhagat Singh behind bars.

It was a multilingual drama in Hindi, English and Bengali. Another interesting element was the dancers from Chattisgarh who gave a traditional dance performance on the stage. The drama was presented by the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture in collaboration.
